Laurie, thank you!
I thought that was what the procedure should be, but just wanted clarification. I'm supposed to have the labs and all pre-op stuff Thursday, so I will definitely inform them at that time.
Would I then just go back to my normal dosing schedule with the HC?
Thanks again!! Barbara

You would go back to regular HC dosing as you would only require the IV steroid for less than one day (likely one dose). If you require higher than usual dosing for more than two days, then you would need to wean from that until you return to usual dosing.
You are welcome, Laurie

Just as an update to the surgery, as well as my new labs. I increased my HC from 25 to 27.5, remaining at 2 1/2 grains of Armour, and these are the new results:
02/19/09 01/22/09 FT3 3.7 (2.3-4.2) 4.1 same range FT4 1.24 (.73-1.95) 1.25 (.76-1.46) T4 10.2 (4.4-13.5) 8.3 (4.5-12.5) T3 uptake 32.0% (20-38.5) 30 same range TSH -.1 (.3-5.1) undetectable (.36-3.74)
Any comments appreciated.
As far as the throat/back of tongue biopsies done on Feb 20, the results are not back yet. The doc also "stripped my vocal chords" of the mucusy stuff. My voice is still really scratchy and my throat is extremely sore. They did give me an IV steroid, but it was a "Decca" something, not solumedrol or anything sounding familiar.
My ex-husband had come from Fla to TX to take me back and forth for the surgery, and he left on Sat morning. I got a px call Tue afternoon that he had simply dropped dead from an apparent heart attack (he had just turned 66!). Since we are divorced and had only been contemplating getting re-married, I cannot get any further info than that from his grown children. Needless to say, I have been stress dosing, and am now having heart palps/high BP/high pulse from H@ll. I have an appt with a cardiologist for next week, as my pre-op EKG had shown some irregularities, but am trying to find ways to control this until my appt. Again, any suggestions would be wonderful.
Thanks in advance, Barbara

Sorry to read about your loss. Please accept our condolences. Is the stress dosing helping you? Do take care of yourself.
Good luck with your evaluation. EKG irregularities can be influenced by electrolyte imbalances. Namely magnesium and potassium. Have the docs obtain potassium, magnesium and sodium when you have your evaluation. Of course low aldosterone can impact this...
The docs gave you dexamethasone. Good luck and keep us posted, Laurie
