Hello hope you are okay Ihavent been posting as still waiting to go into barts so no new news yet!!! I found an artcile on Mary Shrooms website about how caffine alters tsh : In addition to similarity of some symptoms, there is a suspected hormonal relationship between the thyroid and caffeine. According to researchers, "Caffeine has been shown to markedly alter...thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and thyroid hormones in animal studies. Similar studies in the human are lacking." (Dev Pharmacol Ther 1987;10(2):73-80) Other researchers found that "chronic caffeine therapy," constituted by high levels of caffeine use over time, "stimulated both T4 and TSH; however, TRH-stimulated TSH release was decreased, suggesting that chronic therapy may blunt pituitary TSH response." (Pediatr Res 1983 Jul;17(7):592-595). I had two sets of blood tests last year first was in october 2008 and second was November 2008. The only thing i did different was that i drank lots of coffe prior to my test in October 2008. Mt test reults show a big difference in my tsh: TSH.....2.94 (0.27 - 4-20)OCTOBER FT4.....13.6 (12.0 - 22.0) *only 16% in range TSH:.......0.68 (0.27 - 4.20)DECEMBER FT4.........13.2 (12.0 - 22.0) *only 12% in range FT3...........3.5 (4.0 - 6.8) *deficient TGAbs.....<0.9 (0-4.9) *Negative TPOAbs..<0.25 (<9) *Negative Do you think maybe this could be whats happened. Iam not going to smoke, eat, drink any caffine at barts thats for sure!! HUgs Mandxx

The one obvious thing is that the FreeT4 is essentially the same!!
The thing to remember is being consistent. I always avoid exercise, stress, eating, drinking(except water) prior to labs. It's also most important to have thyroid labs done at the same time of day. As close to 8am as possible. TSH has diurnal pattern(with most pit hormones). It's higher earlier in the morning and will decrease as the day progresses.
