Do you think your hypopit was caused by a head bump?

You know, it's really hard to say which came first. I had the frequent sinus infections/bronchitis and walking pneumonia before the head injury..... There is strong family history of autoimmune endocrine disorders. I know things changed within 6months of head injury. Did trauma hasten autoimmune processes?

I thought you might find this interesting: Antipituitary antibodies after traumatic brain injury: is head trauma-induced pituitary dysfunction associated with autoimmunity? www.eje.org/cgi/content/abstract/159/1/7

Hi Ruth,
I read the link when you had posted it on the RTH forum. Pretty fascinating.
I've wondered for some time now...... How the heck did you get properly diagnosed? I know there aren't labs available to the general population to test for pituitary antibodies --yet. The Hashi's is a no brainer. How did the docs put two and two together? Were you part of a research study?
Thanks, Laurie

Hi Laurie, Any 'idiopathic' hypopituitarism associated with hashi's strongly suggests it's autoimmune. In general, the order of pituitary destruction due to autoimmunity is ACTH, TSH, FSH/LH and GH. This is the opposite order to that typically found with macroadenomas. It often doesn't progress beyond ACTH, which makes DX virtually impossible (i.e. if you go by the medical establishments method). Since I am TSH ahd FSH/LH deficient as well, it's clear-cut because it can be DX'd by labs. I also have high titres thyroid antibodies.

Hi.. Two years before this all kicked off I had a car accident and was hit from behinde whilst stationery, i suffered whiplash but didnt hit my head. Also, probably far to long ago but in school i cracked my head open and i still have a big bump on my forehead. It has been refered to as a hemigilian or something..it swells when i have a headache coz people always say what you done to your head!! but I was only 8 yrs old so not sure if that was to long ago. I have read that it can happen very slowly over time but i think if anything it was the car accident.. I am not 100% if Iam hypopit yet or not or whether its hashis..
