I am just wondering if there is some sort of link between autoimmune disease and iron. I know that a lot of people with Hypothyroidism have low ferritin. And I also know that many people with Hemochromatosis also get thyroid problems due to the iron building up on their thyroid gland. I have hemochromatosis (excess iron) and I have hypothyroidism, that is a double whammy that sucks all the energy out of me. Anyone else have this problem? Mia

I think it's more like iron overload can cause similar damage to organs like autoimmune. My husband was diagnosed with Type II diabetes about 3 years ago, but his new doc thinks it's Type 1 because he appears to have iron overload, which damaged his pancreas. But he also has Hashi's, and very poor adrenals (though his adrenal antibodies weren't high enough to officially call it Addison's.)
