Chris doesn't recommend licorice root extract because it can in fact cause high blood pressure. I use the licorice root extract myself and haven't had any problems with my BP, but then again I have always had very low blood pressure, so maybe that is why. If you have high blood pressue I would not use the licorice root, or at least you should get a home blood pressure monitoring kit for yourself. I take 2 ml of licorice root every morning, mine is in tincture form (liquid strong formula) I got it at The Vitamin Shoppe. You can buy the pills too and if you get a book called "Feeling Fat, Fuzzy and Frazzled by Dr. Richard Shames, he tells you in there how to use the licorice root. I already took my book back to the library or else I would look it up for you. I drink mine with a tall glass of water, and I also take 1/4 tsp of Himalayan pink sea salt too. Mia

I see you posted at RTH I'm sure you will get some advice there. You may like to post at NTH Adrenals too if you havent already. BTW I agree with Janet that Licorice is NOT good for low Cortisol. It may be OK to stretch good am levels though. It may also affect Aldosterone/Sodium which may be reason for the BP affect it has for some.

Hi there. I assume you're not on any form of cortisone if starting licorice.
I had a wonderful result with licorice at the start, end of last year. however, i had to raise the dose over the course of 10 months 'till my AI got too severe and had to start HC.
At first i only needed like 300mg of root powder or so to get a great effect. If you take it daily without a break it loses it's effectiveness, and you need more and more.
I ended up on 10grams of root powder per day in the end before changing to HC. Most of the last year I was only on 5-6grams most days (2-3 full teaspoons). Cheapest way to buy it is straight root powder, its exactly the same as what's in capsules and far cheaper.
As mentioned, should only do it if you have tendency towards low BP, never with normal/high normal BP.
As mine is always very low, I had no problems with BP on it, never got higher than 115 or so, maybe 120. So do check BP regularly if you go on licorice. Most brands are much of a muchness, long as it's pure licorice root.
