Hi - I'm new to this forum, although I've been on several other of the Yahoo forums on and off for a year or so.
I'm on 27 mg HC per day and 3 1/2 grains Armour (thyroidless for approx 5 years). I feel like I could use more HC - my dosing now is 7.5, 7.5, 5, 5, and 2.5 at bed. How much is okay to take at bedtime? I'm having ALOT of trouble sleeping - I've taken melatonin for years but it doestn' seem to be doing the trick lately. I wake up multiple times w/ night sweats (think I"m starting perimenapause - I'm 39).
thank you!

Lexie Hi Lexie & Welcome, How much HC is OK at bedtime is variable from individual to individual. Some cant tolerate any at all. The problem with your sleep can be a few things. First it is recommended to taper your HC throughout the day to imitate normal Cortisol rhythm as much as possible. Also need to have highest dose in am so you are not left short & trying to 'catchup' later in the day. For example for 30mg HC daily I would suggest you try 10 + 7.5 + 5 + 5 + 2.5 = 30mg HC. The Melatonin may in fact NOT be helping. Melatonin may lower Cortisol leaving you low. I tried Melatonin myself it didnt help me with sleep & left me feeling really bad the next day. It was obviously lowering my Cortisol so I stopped it. Waking up with night sweats may be Sex Hormone deficiencies & imbalances. Have you tested: •Hormonal Panel includes FSH LH Estradiol (E2) *Men ask for ‘extra sensitive’ test for Males Estrone *available USA Estriol *available USA Progesterone LH/FSH Ratio •Androgens Panel (early 8am) includes Testosterone SHGB FAI DHEAS Androstenedione Free Testosterone Dehydrotestosterone (DHT) *for males only Alternatively sweats may be low Aldosterone & Salt wasting symptom. Have you tested Aldosterone & Renin, Sodium & Potassium? See for correct test prep forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8762Other possibilities are Hypoglycemia or low Protein/Fats. Do you take bedtime HC with good carbs/fats/protein? Like grilled cheese on toast with glass of milk? Protein/fats are needed to properly break down & use HC. Carbs help avoid blood sugar lows.
