Hi there, I am new here.
Back in July I had a a.m. cortisol reading which came back 3.3. The doctor basically dismissed it. Told me to take 5mgs of cortisol every day. So I went to a new doc, and he saw how low my cortisol was, so I had A ACTH stim test done. By then, I was taking 15 mgs of compounded cortisol, which i upped on my own.
I was on that for just about a month, and he told me to stay off of it for two days and then have the test done. By reading here, was that long enough for me to be off of it before the ACTH test? Also, and I know this probably does not matter, at the 60 minute mark, it turned into 75 minutes. The nurse was by herself and helping other patients.
then I had an MRI of my pituitary and it came back normal with a lttle sinusitis.. But the ACTH stim test showed secondary adrenal insuffiency due to lack of ACTH. (I guess that is a given, sorry, I'm all shook up. )
He did not want any other tests. He left me with taking 10 mgs. of cortisol a day, but I take 15.
Also I have Grave's disease. Had RAI 8 yrs. ago.
When i went to see this new doc, I was taking 175 mcgs of Levoxyl.
These were my labs on the Levoxyl
TSH 0.1 (0.3-5.1)
FreeT4 1.78 (0.73-1.95)
FreeT3 3.3 (2.3-4.2)
He switched me to 112 mcgs of Levoxyl and added 4 mcgs of compounded T3.
I gave this over 4 weeks and was feeling strange, so I upped my T4.
Any explanation as to why he changed me so much.
Also I read that when you have adreanl insuffiency, you should not be taking T3. Please explain that one. I read that on a thyroid forum..
BTW, I am going to another doctor in December. I feel I need other tests run regarding my pituitary.
Thank you,
Mamie
