Let me know what you decide to try, I might try it as well. It wouldn't hurt would it? I found this www.vitacost.com/NSI-L-Arginine-L-Ornithine - do you think this might help? Along with melatonin? I guess I also question if these would work with someone with a pit tumor...if I'm not producing growth hormone because of damage from a tumor, would secretegogues work very well anyway? Would my pituitary really be able to produce more if stimulated by amino acids? I really can't afford growth hormone, so this is my only hope I guess. what about a product like this one? www.vitacost.com/Life-Flo-IGF-1-Plus being a spray under the tongue - do you think it would work? I hate having to learn so much more now than I did when I thought all my problems were just thyroid related. Pituitary tumors SUCK!

I'm in the same boat - I thought my issues were limited to thyroid, adrenal and sex hormones. I don't have a definitive diagnosis yet either and to get an MRI I have to see an endo (as GPs here aren't allowed to order them I think).
I honestly don't know in exactly which situations secretagogues work. If the pit is damaged then it is likely the secretagogues won't work. If all the pit needs is a push of some sort, then they may work. It seems a slim chance really. I'm going to do some more reading. GH is actually mostly produced by the hypothalmus, but is then released by the pit.
I'm already on melatonin 3mg and might try upping that to max 6mg (Hertoghe says 5mg is OK). At first I was quite drowsy on 3mg but now it seems fine. My sleep is still unrefreshing though so that has led me to look into pit problems. I'm most likely going to get a few of the aminos - arginine, ornithine, glycine and glutamine look like the most promising, but all the studies have used varying doses and mixes so it's all a bit hit and miss.

Unfortunately, secretagogues don't work if the pit is damaged. They are useful for those will low GH due to age or sluggish responsiveness. Tanya - If you have GH deficiency due to pit damage and it is severe, HGH replacement is really a crucial component to both the present and the future. I am on HGH and funds are extremely tight, but it's the sacrifice I've had to take. Is there any way you can scrap and scrounge for funds? If so, that is the way I would go. I hope you can work something out.

Thanks Ruth, I had a feeling they probably wouldn't work for me, but thought I'd ask. I'll just have to get it tested and see what it comes out to be. Hopefully it won't be low, but I doubt that. I'm on enough HC, Florinef, and almost on enough thyroid at the moment, and still am exhausted all the time, get winded easily, unrefreshing sleep even though I am sleeping through the night now finally. Last summer I gained 35 lbs, all of it in my abdomen. I look like I'm six months pregnant. I was 115 pounds and a size 2/4, now I am 150 lbs, and a size 12. I am going to start exercising again soon, no matter how hard it is for me, I have to do something to lose this weight.
Anyway, that's a little off topic. I'll be able to afford it in another year or so when my youngest son starts kindergarten, and we don't have to pay for his pre-k. If it comes down to me really needing it, I'll just have to wait another year. Thanks for the info. You guys are so helpful.

Hi Tanya, Based on the number of pituitary hormones you are deficient. Your symptoms correspond with this. I think waiting one year will be fine... just don't let it stretch out if you can.
