A couple weeks ago I reducing my HC from 30 to 20 mg due to high blood pressure and also reduced my armour a 1/2 grain, now I am taking 1 1/2 grain. My temps are great!! Ok I have been paying close attention to what is going on with me and in this mix of reducing my HC I also stopped taking the .5 xanax at bedtime. I have been reading articals on how xanex has an affect on ACTH and cortisol production. It was about 6 months after I started xanax when I started to have real problems. I feel so much better and many times I feel like I don't even need the HC. I am sleeping from 10pm to 6 or 7 am, when I wake I do feel alittle rushy but I don't take my first dose until 8am and by this time I feel fine but take it anyway, and by my 4pm dose the bloating weighed down feeling is back. less then it was but back. Is it possible that things are doing better and maybe I should only take it when I feel necessary? Thank you, Tina

If you are primary AI, it's possible, but hard to heal adrenals. That might be what is happening to you. 20 mg is still high enough that it could go either way though. Not a good idea to take only when you feel you need it. Could mess up things.
You're welcome, Chris

Well months ago after looking at my acth everyone agreed that I am hypopit. But now I wonder after reading about the Xanax and how it affects ACTH and Cortisol production. I was on it for 4 years until recently. I have a phone consultation with our Doc tomorrow and we will go over all of this. He has put me on Magnesium after testing and I remain on everything he has asked me to do along with selenium and a little kelp. I am amazed how much better I feel with the decrease of HC and removing the xanax along with taking all the added supplements. Thanks Chris

Where did you read that? I wonder if all benzos do that? I've been taking Klonopin for years. How is your anxiety after stopping the xanax? or were you taking it for sleep?

Hi Tina-
Did you have the acth stim. test? My acth was an 8 and then I was put on a benzo. 5 months later, I took the stim test and serum acth while on klonopin and my acth was 18. I asked the doctor if the klonopin would affect the test and he said no. Glad you're feeling better. I was on a small dose of xanax for just 4 months to sleep and weaning was very difficult--you have no withdrawal or anxiety? Wow!

My Doc put me on magnesium the end of October and I have done nothing but improve. I stopped the .5 Xanax at bedtime just over two weeks ago and had no problem doing so. I do take 2 benadryl with all my last doses of meds and sleep better and better everynight. I will soon stop the benodryl. Here is one of the things I found on the internet. www.theroadback.org/scienceprinter.htmThere is more on there, I typed in Xanax and pituitary affects. After talking to my doc tonight he confermed that these drugs DO have this affect. I have no anxioty or fatiuge, it is getting better and better with magnesium. I started out taking 600 mg for two weeks, and then went down to 300 mg a day. I have managed to wean down my HC in the last three weeks from 30 to 20 mg and my doc said to try 17.5 for a couple weeks but if need be go back up. we are now working on my hormones and thyroid, he added a little iodine to everything I am taking. I am on a good path and pray that it continues. I have no adrenaline flowing over, no anxioty, and I am sleeping through the night...YEAH!!!!! ;D
