What does the hyperpigmentation with adrenal problems really look like? Unfortunately google hasn't been too helpful with this because most of the pictures aren't associated with Addison's/adrenal problems or it's always of the most extreme cases. I've always wondered about this because I have some areas on my body that are definitely darker since I was really young (area around my crotch, folds near armpits, elbows), but wasn't sure exactly how dark these patches are supposed to look.
Are they like really really dark or can they be more subtle almost yellowish?
Thanks!

The yellowing (esp bottoms of hands) would be related to hypothyroidism.
Some hyperpigmentation can be real subtle that you wouldn't think much of it. Esp if you have had it for along time and it doesn't change. Might make more of it if it gets darker.
I've seen really bad hyperpigmentation with some folks. They would have dark streaks on nails, black/darkened areas of gums and inside of the lips. The high MSH is directly related to elevated ACTH. This can be seen with Cushings syndrome and with Primary Adrenal Insufficiency.
If this is the case with you... once you start taking HC....ACTH will lower and MSH will lower as well.

Thanks Laurie! We'll see what happens once I start on the HC. It's still going to be a few weeks.
