Hi,
so ive posted on some other forums, and got some help already which im very grateful for, but i still have some questions.
Here are the results of last weeks Cortisol Index:
* sample 1 (awake +1 hour) - 9.4 [it says normal is 12-22]
* sample 2 (+4 hours) - 4.1 [it says normal is 5-9]
* sample 3 (+5 hours) - 3.0 [it says normal is 3-7] so just about ok i guess.
* sample 4 (bedtime) - 2.3 [it says normal is 1-3]
My total for the day was 18.8 [normal is 21-41] so low overall.
My DHEA at sample 2 was 1.33, and at sample 3 was 0.90. Normal it says.
So the first two samples are low, and the third is baseline of normal. fourth is normal, but as the others are so low, proportionally its quite high really. My overal is low.
And here is some history.
Im Male.
27.
Had fatigue problems for a long time, certainly as long as since i had glandular fever (MONO) when i was about 14. Since then i definately have been well/unwell on/off. But never really right since then id say.
Been to the doctors on and off about fatigue and problems sleeping.
Last summer i felt very fatigued, and generally unwell. feeling sick, dizzy, mind fog, tired, no energy, breathless. etc.
I had quite a few blood tests in September - all came back ok. Thyroid too.
Then around Christmas time i went downhill, since then i havent worked a full week. Spent alot of time with no energy at all. I would say i was worse a month ago than i am now, marginally.
My Doctor (and ive had a second opinion too) thinks it could be ME, but wants to check first by retesting blood, and some extra more obscure stuff. Tests happening on Wed this week. Im also popping back to the Docs tomorrow with these results, and to request cortisol and aldosterone blood tests on Wed too.
The Doc is talking about refering me to a special new ME clinic which has been setup lucky, quite near where i work.
In paralell to that i saw a sleep specialist this week who seemed to be very good and she gave me some good advice and put me on a program to fix my sleep problems (which btw i have had all my life but gets worse when the fatigue problems hit).
Questions I have:
1. How bad are my adrenal results?
2. So it seems i have an adrenal problem...does that mean i have ME too? (I understand people with ME tend to get pain, i dont think i do, just very tired muscles/joints. Almost painful cause its so bad, but i woudlnt say its pain)
3. I seem to enter a slump most days around 3-4-5-6 O clock. Usually for an hour or so. Why is that, cause my adrenal result around this time of day is not as far from normal as the results from earlier in the day.
4. I also slump after doing anything, though usually for a shorter period. e.g. i went outside an hour ago to plant some plants i bought at the w/e, just a simple 5 minute job, came in to the house, and suddenly felt awful. Could hardly lift my arms, head etc.
4. What should I be asking my Doctor for? Hydrocortisone?
5. Is adrenal fatigue related to glandular fever (MONO) cause there appears to be some evidence that ME is, and i have had MONO bad and 'feel' like that caused my illness now.
Thank you for reading, and I appreciate your help.
Best
Joel
