Sorry, Got side tracked with life. How are you feeling? You will probably need a dose (2.5mg) mid afternoon. You may even need a small dose before your head hits the pillow at night. I'd try that on a weekend. This will hopefully keep your cortisol sustained at night. Prevent the waking up at around 4am with racing heart/shakes/hypoglycemia. Also, be sure to eat a protein snack at bedtime too. Great Job. Laurie

Hi Laurie, Thanks for checking in. I have been doing pretty well. I think the releif of knowing that I am finally getting what my body needs has made a huge difference. I actually woke up yeseterday morning and didn't feel nauseated for the first time in over a year! It was so nice! I am still getting dizzy/lightheaded but that is mostly first thing in the morning now, not all day so hopefully it will go away soon. I haven't had any major blood sugar issues for a while, so I hopeing those stay away and don't come back now that I am on HC. I did have a horrible episode last night, we went to a wing joint and I had their buffalo chicken salad, so yummy but I think the spice was to much for my stomache. On the way out to the car, I got queezy, then horrible stomache pains, at first I thought it was gas pains, then it switched to more menstural feeling pain, I got really clammy and hot, I thought I was going to pass out. On the way home the pain was so bad I almost had my husband go to the ER. Then I started to get the feeling of diarrhea so I thought I would wait til after that was out of my system and see what happened. As soon as we got home I ran to the bathroom and after another episode of major stomache pain, followed by diarrhea I didn't have the stomache pain anymore but I did have a couple more episodes of diarrhea. I took 5mg hc because I felt so week, as well as sea salt in gatorade (actually couldn't taste the salt at all). I was still really clammy for a while and I was so cold I was shaking, even with a heating pad on me. Today I am just tired again but with a major bloated and gas filled stomach. Am I wrong to think that maybe it was something more that the wing sauce? It was so weird cuase I felt like I could hardly move my body all night. It wasn't a reaction to the HC? I took it today and haven't had another episode so I hope not. I don't know if you re-read my post but I did add a few questions. Here they are again, if you have an opinion that would be great. I was reading about DHEA and what it was supposed to be if your ACTH was low. I don't think that my DHEA levels follow that, so I am wondering what that means? The other thing I was wondering about was b-12 shots. The nurse said I could get those if I wanted them to help with adrenal support (would that also help my ferritin levels) Thanks, and don't worry about getting side tracked with life, that's what life is about

Maybe there was MSG in the food? It's often used in spicy or salty food as cheap flavouring.
I've had bad reactions to that, I think I used to be OK with it but since I got sick, I'm more sensitive. Or maybe you have a food intolerance ? eg. gluten.

MOST folks (not advanced age) without primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency will have optimal DHEA-S levels...usually upper 1/3 of range.
When taking Cortisol, DHEA-S will decrease because you are shutting down ACTH. You have to be careful supplementing DHEA (esp female). DHEA will lower cortisol. So until your cortisol replacment is optimized... I'd wait. Even then, it's low and slow(esp female).
Allison brought up a MOST EXCELLENT point. That could have been a reaction to MSG. My husband reacts terribly. BAD headache then nausea. Sometimes diarrhea. He looks quite PALE too.

I don't think I need to replace DHEA based on my levels right?
Whatever it was is gone, I have been tired ever since though and I had been doing really well, also am more nauseated the past couple of days? Should have a kept my hc dose higher longer? Or I think I forgot my afternoon dose on Friday so it could be that to. I am up to 10mg in the am and then 5mg at lunch. I don't feel super tired in the morning anymore, at least not that past 3 or 4 days. Now it is late afternoon or evening. Should I be taking maybe 2.5 mg around mid afternoon or early evening? I have been waking up at night cause I have been so hot! I freeze all day long and then sweat all night. Any idea what that is about? I was doing so well, at least I know that I can be there and feel normal. Anyways, just wondering. Also, will the HC immediately affect my hormones enough to mess my periods up? My period is late and I am wondering if starting the HC could have "reset" stuff? Again just curious. Thanks!

Well, I just have to complicate things don't I - figured out why my period was late - posotive pregnancy test! Guess that is why I am tired again! Should I keep the cortisol going up even slower? I will call the doctor this morning to find out what she has to say. Eveidentially all my other pituitary hormones are working just fine :-) or we are extremely fertile! I am really nervous how my body will react to this. Anyone been through/sustained a preganancy with all this stuff going on?

So my doctor is out till next week, at first the nurse practioner said to go off of it, then she talked to another doctor who said no have her stay on it, just don't raise her dose anymore till my doc gets back next week. I don't like having conflicting info. Anyone have any experience with this. I have been looking on the net but can't find much! Thanks

Julie(thegoatlady). A member of realthyroidhelp.com recently gave birth to a baby. This was her third pregnancy. She's hypopit(actually likely autoimmune polyendocrinopathy as she's hypoparathyroid too). She didn't get diagnosed until after second child. Her first two children are hypopit/endocrine deficiencies too.
Anyway, with optimal hormone replacement, she had the best pregnancy with the third. She continued HC(high dose) and also took either medrol or prednisolone. She took florinef too. You can become a member of RTH and either send her a PM or send a PM to Bree(one moderator). Bree is also up on this as she's praying and trying to get pregnant. She can direct you to research/article supporting cortisol replacement. It seems need for cortisol and thyroid hormones increase with pregnancy.
Hope this helps. Congratulations. IF you can't get a doc on board with treating your hormonal deficiencies with pregnancy.... you might want to consider traveling to my doc. Having a PLAN B up your sleeve.
Congratulations! Laurie
