Hi Josh,
Absolutely as long as we are talking physiological (low) replacement doses NOT pharmacological (high) doses.
Hydrocortisone is better I would think too than other steroids like Prednisolone & Medrol. HC is bioidentical & the synthetics are not (although they have the same biological affects as HC).
So IF taking Cortisol HRT (physiological doses) for either primary or Secondary AI this is no different to Cortisol levels in a "healthy" individual with no AI.
Baby would not be exposed to anything harmful unless Cortisol produced by your own body is "harmful"?
Certainly in utero I know both high & low Cortisol DOES affect the baby's development. As does Mother being Hypothyroid. The health of the baby is optimised when the Mothers health is optimised & if that means she needs HRT of whatever she is LOW in then that is what should be done.
Certainly after birth continuing to optimise Mothers health means breast feeding will likely be more optimal too. By that I mean if Mum is HypoT and/or AI then her ability to handle stress, handle demands of being a Mum, maintain milk supply & to have nutritious milk (HypoT have many deficiencies/imbalances) is compromised.
So dont worry if you are taking a bioidentical product, optimising Mums nutritional (vits, minerals, etc) & hormonal (Cortisol, Thyroid hormones, etc) status then that will ALL be to benefit & health of BOTH Mum & baby.
Of more concern are other things like pain, headache, AD, BP meds & more. They have more repurcussions for baby & should not take without Docs advice & careful supervision.
