Hi all Just wondering what is going on with my periods and sex hormones? My periods are between 23-30 days apart and I seem to bleed properly but lightly for only 2 days and then i have a brown discharge which lasts for up to 12 days. AS with the other poster I have had some periods where I have stopped and started which is very strange! I have zero libido at the moment, just no interest whatsoever . Here are my latest labs and my labs from June last year. Sorry about no ranges but the lab did not give any. JUne 08 taken 3rd day of cycle LH 1.9 (2-14) FSH 3.1 (2-15) Oestradiol 381 Progesterone 4.3 Prolactin 104 (102-496) Testosterone 1.3 (<2.4) December 08 taken 5th day of cycle LH 6.1 (2-14) FSH 6.8 (2-15) Oestradiol 240 NO RANGE Prolactin 68 (102-496) Testosterone 1.0 (<2.4) SHBG 130 NO RANGE Any ideas as to what is happening??? DX with empty sella due to pituitary tumour popping. Thanks in advance BB xx

Hi BB, Having empy stella would make it likely that sex hormones are affected in some way. Low LH and FSH, in combination with your symptoms, suggest secondary hypogonadism. Can you call the lab to get those ranges, including for testosterone? .... having a 'less than' value is ludicrous - women need testosterone too!!! Also, what medication/hormones were you taking at the time? Has things gotten worst since the last labs were drawn? Cheers

also that SHBG seems high to me, but again what's the range. if the SHBG means that the actual free testo for yr body to use would be really really low.

HI
Thanks for you replies.
For the June labs, I was not taking any medication at all. For the December labs I had been taking Topirimate (Topamax) for migraines for about 3 months and Nytol as I was not sleeping at all...still having sleeping problems but not taking anything.
Since the last labs, my libido has completely gone, my periods have started getting lighter and now shorter the last one was 10 days instead of 14 and the cycle was 30 days long.
For the last week or so my muscles, joints and what seem like my bones ache and I feel exhausted. Don't feel like I'm coming down with a cold or anything though just feel old...I'm 36 though.
Thanks
BB x
With regard to the lab, in England not allowed to ring lab only DR can do so and GP has said all my labs are normal so don't need any further action although she says my periods are not normal.

Hi BB, If anything, your symptoms sound more like low testosterone. But, I really can't say anymore without those ranges . Cheers

Hi BB, With regard to the lab, in England not allowed to ring lab only DR can do so and GP has said all my labs are normal so don't need any further action although she says my periods are not normalEven in England the Doctor is obliged to give you full details of your results including actual result unit of measure & Lab Range for each result. I read & occassionally post on Thyroid Patient Advocacy Yahoo Group & they spell this out loud & clear. You can write a letter either post or take to Docs office requesting exactly what I said above. You can ask for details of any & all test results not just the most recent ones. In letter ask them to phone & advise when ready to collect. They can only charge photocopying if they decide to charge anything at all. In fact you are also entitiled to get copies of your patient records/notes as well. If They are unco-operative you can get your local/regional health authority involoved and THEY will requie/direct the Doc to comply. They are called a PCT from memory? Join TPA Group if you like access their file info & post for advice. Shiela & the mods there will be only too happy to help! health.groups.yahoo.com/group/thyroidpatientadvocacy/
