My Dr. wants me to try Compounded Aldosterone due to the symptoms I am having. Salt cravings, thirsty all the time, dizzy when I go outside from the house, sensitive to heat. He said he wants me to try Aldosterone instead of Florinef. I have never heard of Compounded Aldosterone. I am currently on 30mg HC, 4 grains armour and feeling better than I have been in years, but not quite there. I have not had my aldosterone tested yet.
He also said it would help me with my tinnitis(ringing in the ears).
What do Y'all think? Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, Its a mistake NOT to test first IMHO. Whats the difficulty doing Aldosterone, Renin, Sodium & Potassium? Its a pretty standard sort of test though the Renin needs some special handling. Remind me what was your last Sodium & Potassium & how long ago since tested? Your symptoms do sound like low Aldo thats for sure. Certainly low Aldo & electrolyte issues ARE related to Tinnitis. I used to have it too. Gone now with Florinef, Salt & Potassium supps. I've never heard of compounded Aldosterone. I know Aldo IS available but at a very high cost like US$800 a month? Plus it is VERY short acting. Would require multiple dosing. Did the Doc discuss costs with you?? Whats wrong with using Florinef? far cheaper to achieve the same ends??? Heres an article talking about bioidentical Aldo being used to mitigate hearing loss newswithviews.com/Howenstine/james46.htm

Lee, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I should have these tests before I start anything. My last sodium and potassium were:
Sodium 142 Range 135-146mmol/L Potassium 4.4 Range3.5-5.3mmol/L
This was part of Comprehensive Metabolic Panel done in May, 2008. My Dr. was referring to bio identical aldosterone. Yeah, compounded aldosterone is $80 per month. Seems high.
My main symptom is feeling dizzy, lightheaded when I go outside in the sun. It's really hot down here in SE Texas during the summers. Seems like I can't handle it as much as when I was younger.
As far as Tennitis, yes I was diagnosed with the ringing about 10 years ago. Sounds like a jet engine. Very annoying. Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg,
You havent had even a Metbolic panel in 9 months? Yes please do test Sodium Potassium Aldo & Renin first!!! At least you will have a baseline before starting whichever med you try!!!
And you need to know if you will need Potassium supping too.
I assume you have tried Sea salt supping to see if it reduces/eliminates the symptoms?
Only $80 per month for the compounded Aldo? Thats way less than I was told...$800 per month I understood it to be. You sure this is bioidentical Aldo? I wonder if its a slow release type?
Mine wasnt as bad as a jet engine. Just a high pitched whine...still annoying though. Glad its gone!!!
