Hi
As mentioned before, I´ve been to the Cardiologist yesterday.
A nice person, open minded, who listened to "most" things I had to say... Checked my pulse and bp... And...
Heart rate
He said that my heart rate is far too high for being at rest and thus also moving, standing, etc.
Anemia: did not give importance to it and said I should not worry about it but to continue 1 pill a day.
Angina. I explained all the symptoms and the night episodes. He seemed to be very interested... Though denied that I could have angina.
Thyroid. Did not even reply to my question.
Exercise: Said it was better not to exercise, until we can reduce my heart beat to a normal rate.
He gave more importance to reducing the heart rate than to anything else and said he was going to prescribe a drug for it.
I explained to him that according to my Endo, my heart had to beat faster as an emergency response of the body to compensate the low blood pressure and support the adrenals... One of the reasons that the Endo stopped the beta blocker I was taking...
He answered that the heart rate would be reduced by the drug but would still be able to increase whenever needed by the body. (do you think he knew what he was saying? Did not make sense to me)
Then he said that as I was unable to take beta blockers, nitrates, etc. there was a new drug, able to reduce my heart rate and not being a beta blocker nor causing a decrease of my bp: Procorolan.
As wisely mentioned by Laurie and Lethal Lee: I have been surfing the net trying to find information on this drug BEFORE even buying it.
As you can imagine, the Cardiologist is wrong.
Besides being prescribed for treating angina, (he said I do not have angina) it is not recommended for patients with hypotension (90/50), can cause bradicardia, should not be given to patients with an irregular and/or low heart beat... Should be given under a strict medical control (he said that I do not need to go back and can be followed by my GP) and should be given with care to patients with a left ventricular disfunction, as well as to patients with cardiac insuf.
Patients with hypotension. As they do not have details on reactions caused by the drug to patients having a mild or severe hypotension, the drug should be given with care to them and NOT to be given to patients with a severe hypotension (for instance <90/50).
And I had mentioned to him that I had 80-50 yesterday while standing in the bathroom... With a heart rate of 115
Another waste of time.
Obviously, I am not going to take that drug.
Added to my frustration (and my husband´s... He was angry when I told him what I´ve found about the drug. We both cannot understand how this doctor prescribed this drug... Not recommended for a low bp!!!!)... This morning I had to be 1 & 1/2 h. standing at work and when I got home, I was having presyncope symptoms... Feeling ill again and after the frustrated app. I feel alone, left to my own... Only with my husband´s and your support and help... Doctors seem to have 0 (yes, no) idea.
Going to the doctors sometimes (most of the times) is so frustrating... And even dangerous
Yes, he was open minded, listened to most of the things I had to say, but had NO idea of AI...
I am still with the same problems... With a high heart rate at rest (even above 100), low bp when standing + other symptoms... Without a long acting steroid...
Sorry for this long post. I might be venting too much.
Thank you for reading and for your answers.
All welcome.
Love,
Tessa
