Hi..
I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with me for quite some time. I should really get a ACTH stim test, but refuse to pay $650 for it. So I look for other symptoms, signs etc.
One thing that's been throwing me off is that my electrolytes on recent blood tests are pretty normal (or are they?):
sodium: 2008 139 2007 140 2006 140 2003 143
pot: 2008 4.2 2007 3.8 2006 4.4 2003 3.9
Anyway, I just read that:
"If the pituitary gland is the cause of adrenal failure electrolyte levels are usually normal."
So he's saying that if you're primary hypoadrenal, you're likely to have high sodium etc, but not if it's the pituitary...?
What do you think?
Thanks! -michael

Hi Michael, In general, electrolytes only go out of the 'conventional lab ranges' when you've been sick for some years and eventually you're admitted to the ER because you've collapsed! Otherwise, things are 'low-normal' or 'normal-high'. In primary AI it's low-normal sodium and normal-high potassium, whilst in secondary AI it's low-normal sodium and low-normal potassium. Your 2007/2008 results suggest secondary AI. You should try to get am ACTH, cortisol, renin, aldosterone and electrolytes tested. Cheers
