Hi, Does anyone have any info on this subject. I have a pain in the upper left portion of abdomen, upper ribs. I have it after eating or taking any pills or supplements. I am a bit woried it could be the pancreas. I have had it for two months but thinking about it more I think I have had it for longer than that. I heard that HC may bring on Pancreatic problems. Or does Pit. problems also effect pancreas ? Anyone else a problematic pancreas???

Hi C. Sorry I didn't get back to you on the other message yet. I get very brain fogged and lose track sometimes of all the diff msgs and boards ive posted on.
It sounds pretty similar to my pain. The pain I explained back on the yahoo board, the very severe, screaming with sweat pouring off me in ER abdo pain was years ago, i haven't had an episode like that since about 2003.
However, since i had a wide sphincterotomy of the common bile/pancreatic duct, the pain was very under control for years until i started HC a couple of months ago. But, it has never yet been that bad as it used to be. Its more of a mild, irritating pain felt under the left rib (around the spleen area), and often mid/left abdo behind the stomach. It's a deep pain, whereas stomach acid and ulcers are more frontal abdo. I've never had ulcers, but alot of acid/reflux over the years. its a very different pain.
It's possible that yours might just be stomach acid, which can be pretty bad. If you havent tried already, try some Zantac tablets to lower your acid for a day, and see if the pain lessens. If not it's more likely pancreas irritation. However its not likely to be pancreatitis unless you are in unbearable pain curled up in a ball on the bed.
Mine so far on HC has just been an irritation that is very annoying, not severe. I'm hoping it never progresses to pancreatitis again. If it did, I would consider super long acting steroids like dexamethasone, therefore the dose only has to bypass the liver and pancreas ONCE per day, then once in the blood stays there for over 24 hours. Whereas now, HC for me goes past my liver and panc 6 times a day or so, irritating it each time.
Don't be too worried if the pain is just mildly annoying. And it may only be acid / reflux yet, try out the Zantac.
~Chris.

Thank you both for the reply. I am going to try to reduce the acid. The pain is annoying and constant but not as you describe as unbearable. It is weird b/c it is so high up in the left ribs. Okay. Thanks again

Antoinette: When you have had pancreatitis, have you had to inject solu cortef? This is a massive concern of mine - getting pain so bad that it could cause an adrenal crisis. Let me know.. thanks. hi,well i haved had panmcreatits myself a couple times,,ive had it so bad that they said if levels got any higher they were goin to feed my thru a tube!,,,i had it real bad,,hc can cause this, also hypoT can becuz hypo slows all organs,,sumtimes mine will hurt if i dont eat,,then have really bad diarrea witch would giv it realief,,,pancreittis can cause bloating also,i was tole to stay away from spices, and only eat oatmeal and baby food for a week it actually worked,or banans anything soft cuz hard food can make it work harder cuasing pain.have you had amylase tested?i think i spelled that right;0,,its to test levels of pan...

Thats awesome to hear. How severe was your pain with the pancreatitis? Being new to adrenal insufficiency, i'm still not sure of what causes a crisis or not apart from big shocks like car accidents, getting mugged, severe things like that. I would've thought severe pain like pancreatits or anything like that (gallbladder attacks, kidney stones etc) might cause the need for a super high dose if not injection. Did you go to ER with the pain when you had it? Did you have to stress dose more HC? Im just thinking severe stress as such would require it.. Glad to hear you've never had a crisis though!
