Hi Chris,
I have been diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. I'm not sure if these are genetic or not, I can't find any info on that. Or, could tumors be a symptom of hypophysitis? Couldn't find info on that either. Anyway, I had my son tested - he's had various health issues that have worried me because he seems so similar to me. Here are his results:
ACTH: 14 Range: 6-48
Cortisol: 4.6 Range: 5-25 (This was not done first thing in the morning - blood was drawn around 11:00 am)
Growth Hormone: 1.6 Range: 0-6
Somatomedin-C: 42 Range: 52-297 (Age 6)
IGE, Immunoglobulin: 257 Range: 0-393
Prolactin: 3.97 Range: 2.5-17
T3, Free: 3.9 Range: 2.9-6.0 (Age 6-10 male)
T4, Free: 1.38 Range: 0.8-2.0
TSH: 2.01 Range: .35-5.8
He also had allergy testing done at the same time, the only thing that came back positive was oak trees. No food allergies, or sensitivities.
I haven't had a chance yet to go over the results with his doctor, her nurse faxed me the lab report. But I'm hoping that with my history, she'll be open to more testing. I guess I would like to know what else I need to get done...
An ACTH stim test, b-12, ferritin, and vitamin d? Anything else? Electrolytes, aldsterone and renin? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
He has had no head injuries, he was delivered by c-section after a hard labor.
His symptoms include:
-Asthma
-He has had tubes put in his ears from chronic ear infections
-Extremely small (has never gotten above the 10th percentile since birth) he is currently 43” and 40 lbs at age 6
-Dark circles under his eyes
-He gets diarrhea pretty regularly, and throws up quite often (a bad gag reflex).
-His tonsils are enlarged on one side (which I’ve been told contributes to his gag reflex)
-He has speech problems and has been in speech therapy since age three. (I have been given many reasons for the cause of this ranging from ear infections as a baby, to the enlarged tonsil making it hard for him to annunciate.)
-He sweats at night and is always hot
-He has loose ligaments which contribute to flat feet, I have no idea if this is related or not
-He is a good sleeper, but snores at night (again I was told it was the enlarged tonsil)
He has no behavior problems and is doing well in school so far (he's in Kidergarten).
Thanks again.
