I'm thyroidless and hypo-pit, take potassium/celtic salt. HC didn't help so I switched to Medrol, and have been on 6mg for a while.
A month or so ago I started to get air hunger, rapid heart rate, weakness, etc...typical adrenal symptoms. Tried to increase Medrol a wee bit and made things worse. Lowering to 4mg didn't help. Taking it every other day sort of helped but not much. Switched to prednisoLone (not Medrol) at equiv of Medrol dose, but that didn't help much. Lowered to 2.5mg prednisoLone and this seems to have helped a lot.
I have no idea what's going on here. I'm definitely hypo-pit and was totally fine on Armour 11+ grains and 7.5mg Deltacortril (prednisoLone) for years before experimenting with going off adrenal support (before I knew I was hypo-pit). Since that experiment I have had seeming problems even after going back on adrenal support.
I'm pretty sure my pituitary isn't going to self heal, so I am unsure of why all of a sudden I'm ok on much less prednisoLone than before.

Sam, I just want you to know that I'm hoping someone else will be by who can help you. I have not had experience with Medrol or the other Longer Acting Steroids. Would you explain your sign-on. I love dogs! Laurie

The hande "k9gang" came from when I first went online seriously. I had 9 dogs (Basenjis) at the time. I do, or did dog shows, field trials, and amateur oval and straight racing with them, plus did purebred dog rescue/placement/owner support. Presently I own/mod the Yahoo group called "thyroidless".

Thanks for telling about yourself.
Any of your dogs with thyroid problems? Hear it's not uncommon.

I'm no help, just wanted to say hi Sam! You sent me over here from thyroidless (after plucking me out of another hormone forum) a while ago. I just recently found out I'm hypopit too and I am eternally grateful for your help! Good luck!

I have a little update. After the switch to 2.5mg prednisoLone from Medrol, I was ok for a few days then found I needed to add another 2.5mg and was fine with that for a few more days, then found I needed to add another 2.5mg but later in the day. Presently I am doing very well taking 5mg prednisolone in the am and 2.5mg in the early afternoon. This is an equivalent dose to the Medrol I was taking, so now I am a bit confused. Methyl-prednisoLone verses prednisoLone? What's the difference between the 2?
(ps - Margaret, I am glad I was able to help you, and VERY glad to see you here. HUGS to you)

k9gang, check out this link: www.geocities.com/chrisgj@sbcglobal.net/Hypopituitary_supplement_RTH.html2/3 down the page is a section that lists the glucocorticoid (ie., cortisol effects) and mineralcorticoid (i.e., aldosterone effects) potencies of the related drugs/supplements. (do a page search for 'potencies'). Half lives are listed nearby, as well as some anecdotal comparisons. I don't know if any other differences exist between the various options besides what's listed, but this looks like a good place to start. I'd also study the various boards Chris has posted to, to see people's experiences and what's worked for them, and what he advised. I hope you find some balance again.

The "@" sign cut the link in two -- be sure to copy/paste the whole thing down to ".html"
