Hi all, I've been doing pretty well thyroid wise the last few months. Got sick almost 2 weeks ago with this chest congestion. Been on antibiotics and combivent inhaler since Sunday. Went back to Dr yesterday as I ws feeling worse. Put me on 40 mg Prednisone once a day for 7 days. I did ask about weaning and Dr said if you're on steroid for 7 days or less you can start and stop without weaning. I took my 40 mg dose yesterday at 4PM.......seems OK haven't taken armour or prednisone yet today as i'm afraid should i cut back on my armour while on prednisone or keep at usual dose(I take 2 and 1/2 grains) i take adrenal support organic glandular, but no HC or other.i did not take the glandular this AM. Should I take it while taking the Prednisone? i add sea salt to foods, but not in water
i am hypo T-Hashis- and have some low cortisol issues

I saw that Janet responded on the RTH forum. How are you doing? Hope you feel better.

I guess I just wanted affirmation on the 7 day stop without decrease that the Dr said. And also should I be taking my adrenal glandular support right now while on the Prednisone, cause I stopped it(the adrenal glandlar) Thanks for any extra input I am a bit better but still coughing and have a very tight heavy chest feeling.......no fever

I would not be taking the glandular while taking steroids. Generally speaking, glandulars are short term bridge to cortisol replacement, IMHO and experience.
Your tight chest feeling. Is it worse when you cough or deep breath? If so, would be pleuritic. The inflammation due to the bronchitis/coughing.
Do you have a follow-up appt with your doc to eval your progress?

Your doc is wrong, you have to wean. Keep armour dose the same. Don't take adrenal glandular or pregnenolone while on HC, prednisone or Medrol. You need to be taking water with the sea salt.

Thanks Chris.........My brain was saying wean, even though the other Dr said wasn't necessary, so I'm glad to see your input! My chest is still very bad feeling, and I've been to urgent care twice. Had Xrays.......no pneumonia as of Tuesday. But now it's Friday and still not better. The air quality in puget sound right now is stagnant and I'm thinking that may be making it worse. Drinking lots of water, and trying to rest. Laurie, yes, coughing and deep breathing increase symptoms of tightness. The 1st Dr said bronchitis and pleurisy. It hurts!

IT hurts indeed. I had rucurring right middle lobe pneumonia about 10years ago. Lasted all Winter. They finally did Legionella dosing of Erythromycin to knock it out. Fortunately, since starting cortef (also Armour) I have had no sinus infections, bronchitis or pneumonia. Stuff going around and I'm not getting anything. When you are totally healed and off meds(if possible). Stay off glandulars and such. Get morning cortisol, morning ACTH, DHEA-S, repeat saliva cortisol. You want to be sure your " low cortisol issues" isn't more. And to receive proper treatment... You might need more than glandulars. And not get into this situation again (anytime soon anyway). Laurie
