Chris, I am taking Procardia (nifedipine) 30mgs. xl. once a day. I have been on that for quite sometime. I was told it might skew the aldo/renin test. Do you have any thoughts on this. Also, is it normal when you are trying to raise your dosage of HC to feel really strange. I am raising as suggested. 2.5 every three or four day. Strange is so hard to explain. Feeling of uneasiness. feels like heart is beating fast, but in the low 80's. Like a speedy feeling. Strangely I feel better when it wears off.. Keep in mind I was only on 15 mgs to start.. Yeah, I know I'm one of those ones who doesn't get it.. But I'm moving forward. raised to 17.5 and then 20.. I know that is not enough or I might as well go home. BUT still I am raising. Does the body have to get used to this or what? I also don't sleep at night. Literally. It's getting a little better. So, since being so tired in the morning from not sleeping, is it ok to sleep through a dose of HC. At this point, for right now, I have no other choice. I have to get my rest sometime. Why I don't sleep I have no idea. In menopause or post. My doctor gave me a sample of rozerem.. It sure does work. When I first took it, I really did not feel any effects the next day. I took one the other night, and I could not get with it the next day. i can't get with it anyway, but you know what I mean.
thanks. Mamie -- Hypopit

Procardia would totally mess up aldosterone and renin tests. It would be pointless to test while you are on this drug.
Your strange feeling will probably disapear when you get up on the HC. You may be getting the mineralcorticoid effect from the HC. Many people end up having to go to medrol because of it.
It's ok to sleep after taking a dose.
I had real bad trouble with sleep, but used melatonin which real did the job. I didn't need it after cortisol and thyroid were well treated. If melatonin doesn't help (give it a week), I recommend trying Elavil.
You're welcome, Chris

All BP meds will mess up renin and aldosterone testing. Talk to your doc about maybe getting off it to test.
You're welcome, Chris
