I am having MAJOR problems trying to raise my armour. I was on 20mg HC and was fine. Temps were stable and rose to between 36.7-36.9. Then I added in 1 grain armour and rose to 1.5 grains. My temps fell dramatically and have not risen even with the addition of more HC, now with a daily HC dose of 30mg. Plus at night time or whenever I lie down I can feel my heart beat like crazy in my chest. I also get this increased heart rate from simple things like dashing up stairs. I also experience shaky hands and mild hot flushes at night.
I started taking iron on the 21st of December and have been taking a B complex for about two years now.
My tests taken in July were: Vitamin B12: >1000 (193-982) Ferratin: 49 (5-148)
I am pretty scared by these symptoms. At the moment I have reduced my armour to 1 grain but I am still having these symptoms. Was going to come off armour gradually but should I just come off it totally now?
Everything was fine before I added armour.

Hi Lynne,
You say Ferritn was 49 in July but you didnt start Iron supps until 21st December? How do you know how much or IF you even need Iron now? I would suggest getting a full Iron panel done maybe CBC with ESR to see what is going on there. Full panel includes Iron, Ferritin, TIBC & Saturation %.
Hard to say if Iron/Ferritin may be impacting on symptoms without retesting. Note should stop Iron supps 3 days before retesting.
Shaky at night and heart beating hard can be a few causes.
Maybe running low on Cortisol. How are you spreading out the HC you take?
It may be low blood sugar/hypoclycemia. Try eating see if that helps.
May be to do with electrolytes and Aldosterone. Try having Sea Salt in water when you get the symptoms see if it helps.
Have you a monitor at home for BP? Well worth buying one. You need to know what resting & standing BP & HR is.
What was your last Sodium & Potassium levels and when last tested? Have you tested Aldosterone & Renin? If you do have issues with any of these it can be hard to sort out HC dosing. You need to address this before raising Thyroid any further.
Out of breath going upstairs may be a few things too. Likely you are simply still HypoT as you are on low dose Thyroid at present. It may be you are still low in Iron too. Wont know unless you test.
Hot flushes at night can be Sex Hormone related. It may be electrolyte related. Have you tested Sex Hormones & Androgens? Not sure if you cycle still what age you are etc.
By the way IF you are low in Iron you should be supping Vit C, Folate. B12 & B-Multi as well.
As to whether you stay on 1 grain or come off altogether that is up to you. You can try the Sea Salt & eating see if that helps your symptoms first. The testing mentioned will help identify possible causes too.
But if the symptoms are distressing by all means you can go off until you sort out all the above & try again later.

I only started supping iron recently because I didn't realise the ferratin connection. Once I found out about it I looked at my old tests and saw that it was lower than it should be.
I am taking my cortisol in 10, 10, 5 and 5. The heart rate thing at night can't be low blood sugar as I usually have a little something to eat before bed and I test my BS regularly. It runs in the 90's to 100's.
I will phone my doctor for a copy of my electrolytes tomorrow as I don't know what they are.
My testosterone and SHBG are both high as I have PCOS. My progesterone is low according to bloods but high according to salivia. I don't know which to trust. My docto thinks it's low and wanted me to take crinone but I haven't. I read that adrenals and thyroid should be treated before treating sex hormones. I am 28 and my cycle runs about 35 days.
My folate was nice and high when tested. I am supping vitamin c and B multi. Will go buy a B12 this week then.
I will try the sea salt thing when symptoms occur.

Do you take any magnesium at bedtime? This helped my mom when she was experiencing irreg heart beats at night. You can irreg beats due to low potassium and/or low magnesium. Most hypothyroid folks are low in magnesium. Whatever you don't use, you'll poop.. I don't trust saliva sex hormone results. Go with serum. Laurie

No magnesium at bedtime but I can start doing this since I normally take it for my PMS anyway. Should I start supping progesterone now? I thought adrenals and thyroid should be treated first.
Already a bit better since this one day off my armour. Heart rate has slowed for sure.
