Hi..hope you are all okay.. Ive been taking Armour 1/2 a grain for a week and have just introduced DHEA in the last 3 days. I am feeling exhausted, muscles really aching during the day and at night Iam just not sleeping properly. In the morning my TMJ is so bad and I feel anxious and tense!! Ive just been back to oral consultant about my jaw deviation as he had given me a mouth guard to try to help my jaw deviation (from TMJ he thought). He said that teh gaurd wont help as its the muscles in my face causing a problem. He said the muscles are very tense and rigid!! He has given me nortriptyline an antidepressant, not to use as an antidepressant but he said they use it as a muscle relaxer, he is hoping it will help but starting me on a low dose 25g he said it will make me very tiered. I havent started it yet as Iam worried about taking it 1. due to not knowing exactly whats wrong with me 2. I am now taking armour and DHEA and worried it may react Do you think the DHEA is making me feel drained, muscles acheing, tense and anxious in the morning, feel like Ive not slept at all all night never feel refreshed... Ive been loosing alot of weight aswell, i am doing the candida diet very strict just using chick peas and pulses as my carbs so its very low carb....maybe this is contributing to it as wheni am out if i cant find anything I can eat I end up just not eating for hours.. Thanks peeps, just a bit concerned as not sure how I would supposed to be feeling at this point with my Armour and DHEA.. I am going to the doctors next week to ask to have my 8 am cortisol taken so I can see if I need to take HC. Thank you Mandyxx

Hi Mandy, Some quick research en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nortriptyline www.healthyplace.com/medications/nortriptyline.asp Great care is required if nortriptyline is administered to hyperthyroid patients or those receiving thyroid medication, because cardiac arrhythmias may develop.
Both elevation and lowering of blood sugar levels have been reported Perhaps hang fire on trying the med. It may affect your Blood Sugar testing. Also a mention not to take it if on Thyroid meds. Of course in general AD's are not good & do interfere with HPA axis. I realise it is a low dose & Doc is suggesting it for muscle relaxant properties. However I'm sure HC would do it much better it did for me. TMJ was one of my main symptoms of Fibromyalgia too. I have gross deviation on right side of my jaw swings unevenly when I open jaw. What helped me before steroids was Remedial Massage (myofascial & trigger point therapy mostly). I still have it monthly. As to feeling tired it may be the diet it may be the DHEA. Thats the trouble with making lots of changes at the same time. The fact you are losing so much weight is not good though. Not eating for hours on end is very stressing too. I think you need to modfy the strict diet requirements. You werent overweight in the first place were you? You can try reducing the DHEA & see if it helps. If you are feeling so tired now the Nortrytoline is only going to make it worse (fatigue sleepiness being one of the side effects).

Good morning Lee, THank you! Yes, I am going to hold fire with the med he is trying to get me to take, Ive waited 1.5 years to get it sorted so Id rather wait until I have my mri anyway!! Thanks for the reasearch, he did ask if I was taking anything and i said I was taking armour and he said never heard of it..LOL..!!! He said he doesnt think it will work anyway but wanted to try he said the muscle problem is causing the jaw problem so he thought relaxing it may help, but I have the same thing right the way down my right side so I want to know whats caused it.. He said rather than trying to work out whats caused it why dont you just try and get better lol I need to know whats caused it to get better dont i...god I cant wait to not have to see a doctor for a long time!! Yes, I am being very strict with carbs as when i eat carbs my stomache bloats and i am more constipated, but like you said I am not big anyway. I dont know if its the candida making my belly swell or the thyroid I suppose its a bit of both and when i eat carbs my thyroid is low causing the contsipation so I suppose the carbs just sit in side you until you can eventually go to the loo... I think teh diet Ive been doing is okay providing you eat plenty of veggies but when i am out and about its very hard to grabe some meat and veg... Maybe I need to add some sweet potatoe for some exttra energy I just feel so uncomfortable with the belly and it does swell my belly up so much that when I do go to the loo my belly looks all wrinkly when it goes down!! sorry being a bit shallow i suppose with that bit.. Thanks, I am gonna call the docs and see if maybe i need more armour praps take it to 3/4's.. Seeing my doc Wednesday so gonna get the blood tests that you have mentioned. Thanks ever so much Mandyxxx

Hi Mandy, I agree with Lee... hang fire on the meds. I use to have chronic muscle and nerve pain on the right hand side of my neck, shoulder and arm. Prior to hormone replacement, a rheumatologist put me on a low dose tricyclic antidepressant (similar to the one you've been prescribed)... it didn't help at all, made me as depressed as hell and worsened hypoglycemia. My chronic muscle pain only went away with HC, florinef and armour. When these hormones are low - cortisol, aldo and thyroid - the pain comes back. I can also associate with chronic constipation made worse with fiber. I also had uncontrollable wind that I'm sure - if I put it to the test - would kill a horse ;D! My specialist kept on telling me to eat more fiber and didn't believe me when I said it made things worse . Again solved with the above HRT. Good luck with the doc

Thank you XX
Yes Iam going to wait before I take it. When you say HRT does that mean we have to stay on it for ever? Does that mean I cant have children?
Sorry If Iam sounding a bit thick..
THanks ever so much Mandyxx

Hi Mandy,
By HRT I mean 'hormone replacement therapy', which is a general term for any hormone that is being replaced. HRT is often associated with sex hormones because that is the most common form of replacement.
You need to get ACTH and cortisol (both AM) tested. Low thyroid and cortisol can cause low sex hormones and often return to normal with adequate thyroid and cortisol replacement. If they do not return to normal, low sex hormones may be due to secondary hypogonadism (resulting from low pituitary hormones LH and FSH). If this is the case, there are other avenues you can pursue to try to get pregnant.

Morning Ruth Thanks, Happy new year to you..
Well, Ive just been back to my GP and they wont do the morning cortisol test or aldersterone..I am under a pit doctor in London and my GP said you will have to speak to her I cant send you for those tests!!
So Iam going to ask next monday but what if she wont test them?
I am also under Barts neurology who is sending me for mri of head and spine saturday I think I am going to ask them to refer me to thier endocrine...Ive been speaking to a girl ive met with cushings and she hasnt had a good experience with the specialist that Iam also under at the other hospital!!
The girl ive met has cushings ever so nice and has gone throuhg an awful time, I can relate to loads of her symptoms but i guess thats due to it being hormones..so its been nice meeting someone going through the same problems, she told me to scrap my pit specialist and get to barts they have been fantastic..
Ive been on 1/2 a grain for 3 weeks and dhea for two weeks, I still feel tiered, like walking in quick sand, my skin is very dry and dehydrated, wrinkly looking in areas like my belly and finley wrinkled all obver my cheeks and saggy ...but I know its my hormones and they will get better when i do i just hope my skjin gets better..
sory bout that long answer I got carried away..
thank u xx
