As you can imagine, how you feel can be affected by one or more factors. From a pit standpoint: Low cortisol (need AM cortisol and AM ACTH,DHEA-S), Low sex hormones (need individual sex hormones plus LH/FSH), Low growth hormone (more apathy than depression, need IGF-1 plus growth hormone).
Don't forget to evaluate vitamin B12 status and vitamin D levels. These when low,can result in feeling depressed. Need to optimize ferritin as this can impact how you feel. Too high or too low isn't good. How is Fasting Glucose and Fasting Insulin? Imbalances here can also affect you.
Hope this helps. Hope it's a good start. There's more... Laurie

Thanks Laurie.
Laurie has mentioned many points I would have raised.
Sex Hormones were a biggie for me & I certainly feel much better since optimising those.
Nutritional imbalancies & deficiencies are important too. And if you have been HypoP a long while the more likely you are to have quite a few. the more that are identified & corrected the better you will feel. Deficient Vit D, suboptimal B12 & Folate were important for me. Ferritin is a biggie for most but not for me as I have Hemochromatosis.
Of course supporting Adrenals by adequate Cortisol HRT is a must. The brain needs LOTS of Glucose to operate well & Cortisol is a major regulator/influence of getting Glucose to where it is needed.
Lastly having optimal FT3 & being able to USE it (sufficient Cortisol, no RT3 issues) is the ultimate depression cure!!!!!
I am a big fan of L-Tryptophan (compounded) which I take daily & have for over 8 years. I certainly notice a drop in moods, motivation when I stop it even for 4 days. Tryptophan is precursor to Seratonin.

Thank you both, I am a bit overwhelmed with all the hormones and balancing them. I am making an appointment with Chris's doctor in the spring but till then I am trying to figure it out myself. I can't wait to see the hormone chart when Chris is ready. Anyway, I am having some trouble with depression. I always feel less depressed at night ??More sad in the morning. And always better around day 13-15 of cycle..Much more sad in the morning. I have a lot to be happy about, I wish I could enjoy things more and be less anxious and sad. I used to be happier, it's hard to remember. Thanks for your help, Christine

"I am a bit overwhelmed with all the hormones and balancing them. "
It really does stink. You will find that this will continue even after you go to a great doc.
I'm sorry that you are not feeling well. Do you have a primary doc who might be willing to order some labs for you in the meantime. Perhaps see if you have some nutritional deficiencies that you could address sooner.
Please don't take offense if I ask you this. Is your depression so bad that you think of hurting yourself?
Laurie

Thanks you for the help. My depression is not severe. I guess the reality of this hypopit or whatever is causing all these hormone problems has me down. The loss of the healthy person I used to be is a little hard to swallow. Not to mention three small kids and full time job. I feel very overwhelmed. However, I never feel so low as I want to harm myself or others. I do find quiet moments of joy watching my children play. I had a lovely Christmas but was really tired/wiped out preparing, wrapping the night before up till 1 am. My husband worked that night, so Christmas was only happening if I got it all together. I did and it was so special for the kids. I guess I feel a little cheated, I want to be full of energy for the kids, job and husband But I have nothing left sometimes so I feel anxious and sad, mostly in the morning. Also I am occupied with what pill or cream am I taking next and what time. Sometimes it gets so crazy. I do not enjoy the moment.........But I am grateful the kids are healthy and I function as well as I do. And I am here. Thanks for all the support. Praying that 2009 is healthy and happy for all of us. Grateful as always, Christine

I know EXACTLY how you feel about not getting things done or having enough energy to do more with the kiddos. I only work 20hrs/week and that's my limit.
You might want to visit the chat forum--"hanging out". Misc stuff to Chris.
Hope you feel better, Laurie
