Chris, my 8 yo dd, Abby, is scheduled for an Arginine/L-Dopa Stim Test in February. What is the difference between this test and the plain Arginine Stim test?
Also, what am I looking for in results, that would show me if she has a growth hormone deficiency?
I got one of her labs back yesterday. Her IGF-1 was 87 (97-352). I will get the rest off the labs in about a week. She went to the dentist yesterday and they found at least a dozen cavities. This, after having 16+ cavities filled/crowns put on, when she was 4. I have never seen a child with such poor teeth. And it's not from drinking soda or poor brushing. I don't know what the problem is.
Thanks for your help again.

Geez, what are they thinking? They aren't. L-Dopa is a precursor to norepinephrine and epinephrine. If these hormone rise, they could lower her cortisol, affecting the cortisol stim. Ask for those to be done separately.
GH should start in the upper half of the range and double if healthy production. Any other result suggests a problem.
Have your daughters parathyroid hormone (parathormone) checked. If it is overproducing it can cause calicum to leach out of her bones and teeth. I'm not an really expert on parathyroids, but from what I know a parathyroid tumor is almost aways the cause of parathormone over production.
You're welcome, Chris

Thanks for the info. Chris. I wanted to make sure you knew this is growth hormone stim test, not a cortisol stim. I think the doc is planning to test her ACTH and morning cortisol separately.
I'll be back with test results, hopefully, in two months then.

That is the second time I've messed up royally in the last 3 days or so. I am under extra stress due to family matters.
You're welcome, Chris

I completely understand the extra stress, and I'm sorry. Take care!
