The date of this test is Nov. 25, 2008
A little history F. age:68, Hashi HypoT. 90mg Armour- IGF-1 tested 97 -which I think is low. I fasted for 10 hrs/& no meds. I was sitting up.
The Results:
BASELINE: 0.93 collected 7:44 am
30 MIN- 2.59 collected 8:15
60 MIN- 1.38 collected 8:40
90 MIN- 0.45 collected 9:15
120 MIN- 0.17 collected 9:45
I phoned for these results and she said that someone from the lab was going to come by and explain this test to them. I don't know if this is the usual procedure. I will also be getting an acth test on 12/15/08-then my followup Dr. appt. after that.
Thanks for your insight Carol S.

The report says growth hormone stimulation tests should induce a peak of greater than 5ng/mL in adults; lower values suggest GH deficiency.

Forget what I said before. My daughter had a bunch of friends here and I think that distracted me. Yes, Igf-1 is very low. Your Arginine stim suggests impairment of GH production, but I'm suspectful that it was actually an arginine/GHRH stim. Call and find out for sure.
You're welcome, Chris.

It probably was a pure stim, but doesn't hurt to ask. That it went up by several factors which was still low, that is what can happen in an arginine/GHRH stim. If it was pure arginine, then your pituitary can respond when hit with an extreme stress which is what the arginine does, but your stimmed GH didn't reach very high considering top end of the ranges reach 6 to 10.

Hi Chris I didn't want to begin a new thread since we were discussing the Arginine Stim Test, I thought it best to continue on here and hopefully I will get some response from others too who may be using Humatrope.
Today I got an Authorization and Certification Form from Humatrope- so apparently my endo. thinks I will be needing Human Growth Hormone soon.
I would like to know if others have used Humatrope or any other Growth Hormone injection prescription.
This is somewhat unsettling not knowing what to expect and what side effects could occur. I guess I will be giving myself injections. I will be seeing the endo in about 2 wks. Is Growth Hormone deficiency rare?
Any thoughts? thanks! Carol S.

Unfortunately, for every 100 people who's tests show they need HGH, 1 will actually get it. It can be from doc thinking test is ok when it's not, no insurance or insurance won't pay for reasons usually stemming from they don't think the tests shows a bad enough problem or patient has to be a substantial amount of the prescription out of pocket besides what insurance will pay.
GH deficiency is not rare. There are varying degrees of deficiency. I estimate 1/4 of of the population has more than a slight GH deficiency.
You're welcome, Chris
