Okay, I now understand all of that better! While on HC, do you have to stress dose while exercising? Is exercise good when you're on HC or can it be harmful? I'm not talking running a marathon - just everyday cardio and weight training.
Thanks!

Hi Kelly, At this stage, I would ease very slowly back into exercise... perhaps even sticking to walking for the moment. You need to be gentle on your body. Everybody is different, some of us can tolerate moderate exercise but others cannot. The key is to increase your cortisol supply before rather than after. When you're ready to increase the intensity slightly, you could try taking 5-10mg HC and see how you go. If you find you are exhausted after exercise, or take some hours to recover, you aren't stress dosing enough or you're simply pushing yourself more than you should. If, on the other hand, you feel great, you could try decreasing the dose a little for the next round. At the moment, I walk for an hour each day and do 30 minutes weight training - though very light because I'm still low on thyroid. I don't have to stress dose for either of these... but as I said everyone is different . Cheers.

Hi Again,
If Adrenals are well supported & stable, plus Thyroid is optimised gentle exercise is considered good. Gentle is considered 20 mins daily gentle walking (not power walking).
if that is tolerated OK then intensity & length of exercise can be increased. Obviously Cardio workouts would be very stressful indeed. I would suggest leaving them till latter & everything is optimised.
Yes people do stress dose for exercise. Actually BOTH Thyroid & Cortisol requirements would be increased with increased activity. So would nutrititional (vitamin, mierals, protein etc) needs.
I dont have a lot of experience with exercise as yet. Its only on the last couple of months that I have felt the desire or had the capability to even think about it. I have tried doing gentle walking but have had a few set backs so am not at all regular with it as yet. I found I had to stress dose in advance 4-8 mg HC in order to avoid prolonged fatigue/malaise after doing so.
You will have to be guided by your own energy levels & how well you feel as to what you can do there. Its a matter of proceeding cautiously & experimenting with stress dosing to find out what works for you.

Ya, not sure if I'm there yet, but I will definitely pay close attention to how I feel after. I am still optimizaing my cortisol and thyroid meds, so it will be some time before I work up a sweat:-)
I was very active before all of this, so it has affected that area of my life drastically. At times, I just want to jump right back into it again, but I know that's not smart and will do much more harm than good.
I haven't stress dosed, so I'm a little nervous about it all.
Thanks again!
Kelly
